11/11/2015 – OXNARD, CA – We were recently approached by one of our vendors about an Oxnard local junior service member returning home from a one year deployment in Iraq. James Stanley, our Social Media Manager and 10-year US Navy veteran, had been working hard on getting his deployed roommate’s 2003 Ford Focus ZX3 repaired and lightly modified before his return home earlier this week. There were a few repairs that were beyond his abilities and he reached out to the Vista Ford Lincoln of Oxnard Team for some help. Vista Ford Service Manager and US Army veteran, Paul De La Cruz, along with Vista Ford Vice President Tony Fiori decided to help with the project without hesitation.

“We take for granted how much our military does to protect the freedom we have. It would be a very different world without them. We’re able to enjoy our freedom to express ourselves and to drive around, experience our great Nation’s road ways because our active duty military veterans do the incredible job they do to allow for our freedom.   It’s what makes America, America and it seemed like a perfect fit. It’s a small price to pay when it’s what we do for a living.”

– Tony Fiori | Vista Oxnard Vice President

“As a US Army Veteran myself, I was proud to have helped out, especially since he just came back from overseas! There are a ton of programs and groups out there for wounded veterans, but not too many for the regular vets. I know what it’s like having served a year in Korea to come home after such a long period of time, it can be tough. Happy Veteran’s day and Welcome Home!”
– Paul De La Cruz | Vista Oxnard Service Manager.

We brought the car into our service bay where our expert technicians completed the repairs including a new AC Compressor installation and replacement of a worn and stubborn lower engine mount. Other modification completed by Stanley include: AEM Cold Air Intake, Progress lowering springs, 2010 Ford Focus SES 17″ ‘Euro’ wheels and new tires, chrome hatch strip, cruise control repair, new headlight housings, new 3rd brake light, windows tinted, new front struts, new rear shocks, new front passenger wheel bearing, muffler delete, new Motorcraft battery, Black HVAC Stereo surround, replacement passenger side motor mount, new coolant overflow tank, new wiper blades, and an interior detailing.

With a very late night completing all of the final touches and getting the car staged here at Vista Ford Lincoln of Oxnard in our service center, Stanley got PFC Bailey and his mother to the dealership. Stanley had told him that something major happened and that it was in for an estimate. With the staff in on the prank, we got PFC Bailey to believe that the total for repairs was more than $2000, that the repairs were already complete, and that he had to pay for it immediately. Stanley asked to see the manager since he didn’t authorize this slew of repairs, and Mitchell De La Cruz, the Quick Lane Service writer, left the counter to get Paul. A few moments later, Paul De La Cruz and Tony Fiori came around the corner and dug a bit deeper with the prank, all the while, the car was being staged behind him. Once the car was in place, Tony ended the prank with ‘We’ve got you covered’, and turned PFC Bailey around to see his car. The new wheels, the tinted windows, and the fact that it had been washed made it almost unrecognizable to him. The relief and surprise on this face was easy to read and the excitement set in with the reality of having a car that would be reliable and have everything work. It was in that moment and that look on his face that made it all worth it.

We are so proud of Veterans for the sacrifices they make on a daily basis for us.

Thank you so much PFC Bailey for your service and Welcome Home!

To all the veterans around the United States, we wish you a very Happy Veteran’s Day.
